Two building types, two completely different quotes
With 42.4 percent of Etobicoke York dwellings in buildings of five storeys or more, a large share of local bathroom work happens in concrete slab buildings from the 1960s and 1970s. There the drainage connects to a riser in a fixed shaft, cutting the slab for new drainage requires the corporation’s structural engineer and is rarely granted, and the practical scope is excellent finishes in the existing arrangement. On top of construction there is $1,000 to $5,000 of building cost: the board deposit, a certificate of insurance naming the corporation, and elevator bookings for delivery and debris. In the district’s older houses, the same room is a different problem. Drain slope and venting decide what can move, at $2,000 to $5,000 and up per fixture, and the hidden risks are mud-set tile with no membrane behind it and a subfloor softened by a slow leak. We establish which of the two jobs yours is before quoting, because the numbers are not comparable.
